Why do I need an app for my business travel itinerary?
Good question, we’re glad you asked.
A travel itinerary might seem like it’s set in stone once booked - or, if not set in stone, at least printed neatly on a piece of paper that you can fold up and put in your back pocket - but things can change quickly while travelling, especially internationally. Flights get postponed, terminals change, adverse weather interrupts proceedings… you get the picture.
Therefore, it’s extremely handy to have a means of seeing everything digitally, and receiving any updates or alerts in real time, ideally through your phone, which is always with you. So, this calls for an app.
What business travel app should I use?
Well, not that we’re biased or anything, but we’d like to take this opportunity to strongly recommend our bespoke offering - Sam :]. We built this app exclusively for business travellers, with the aim being to consolidate all your requirements when on the move into one streamlined interface.
Sam can do all kinds of clever things, including acting as a platform for recording and filing expenses, and connecting via webchat with our Travel Experts, but its key purpose is its itinerary functionality.
Tell me more, tell me more, like does it book a car?
Ah ha. Yeah. It does that, if you want. Through Sam, you can organise car rental, or if you don’t fancy navigating the roads of a city you’ve never been to before, you could always just use it to find a nearby Uber once you’ve landed.
Think of Sam like a 24-hour personal travel assistant. It’s not there to replace our people (who are irreplaceable) rather to enhance their already exceptional levels of service. Specifically when it comes to your itinerary, Sam takes care of the following:
Weather and traffic reports
Before you embark on your business trip, Sam will fire over a weather report for the destination you’ll be travelling to. This’ll ensure you pack appropriately, and warn you of anything that might disrupt your flight. Like a tornado. But that’s rare, we promise. Sam will also let you know when it’s time to leave for the airport, and give you a traffic update for the journey there.
The moment you’re able to check-in for your business trip flight, Sam will notify you, meaning you can get that sorted with a few taps, well before you’re actually due to fly. One less thing to think about - plus, you’ll have a good chance of choosing your seat, before all the other passengers pile in. No middle spot for you.
Sam will send real time travel alerts about anything that could impact the smooth-running of your trip, giving you a heads up as soon as it’s possible to get one. These alerts cover things like flight status updates, cancellations, boarding gate changes, and as we noted above, weather and traffic updates.
Sam knows that while business trips obviously will have heavy elements of, uh, business, you’ll likely have a little bit of free time too, so will send over bespoke city guides before you’re trip, so you can figure out how to fill those extra hours. You’ll receive ideas of things to do, practical information, and general travel tips relevant to the destination.
Chitty chatty Sam Sam
So sorry about that. But it’s an important one! Sam has live chat functionality, so if you ever, for any reason at all, want to talk to a human, just use the chat box. We totally understand that as clever as the app is, sometimes you just can’t substitute communicating with an actual person, so feel free to make use of that whenever and wherever.
Sam, I need you: where art thou?
Sam works on both iOS and Android devices, so you can find it in the App Store and Google Play, and download it for free.
The above information focuses on Sam’s itinerary functions, but there is plenty more the app can take care of - check out Our Business Travel App page for more detailed information.
Just like FCBT itself, Sam is global, and can be used anywhere in the world, so long as you have a wi-fi connection (though you can access plenty of features offline, as long as you’ve downloaded them, like your boarding pass for example).
