Exploring British Airways’
Voted the best airport terminal in the world in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2019, terminal 5 at Heathrow offers a seamless airport experience with stylish shops, restaurants and luxurious lounges. But what’s really behind the coveted lounge doors?
When you’re travelling for business, using an airport lounge can really help maximise your time out of the office. Whether it’s sending last minute emails and making some calls before jetting off for your meeting, or having a meal before you board so you can spend your entire flight sleeping (and thus wake up in your destination feeling relaxed and ready to face a full day of business), adding an airport lounge to your corporate travel booking will help boost productivity.
And depending on the cabin class you’re travelling in with British Airways, your lounge access may already be included. Speak to your Travel Expert if you’re unsure, but below is a breakdown of the different lounges, and who they’re available to.
Heathrow T5 has five elegant departures lounges located in Terminal 5A and Terminal 5B. If your flight departs from Terminal 5C, you can use the lounges in Terminal 5A or 5B, but ensure you leave the lounge at least 40 minutes before your departure time, so you don't miss your flight.
Galleries First Lounge
The Galleries First Lounge is located in Terminal 5A (South), and is open from 5am until 10.30pm. Access is available for customers travelling in First, Executive Club Gold Members (plus one guest) and Oneworld Emerald members (plus one guest).
Once through the doors, you’ll find yourself in a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the airport (the busiest airport in Europe, according to ACI). The surroundings are elegant, sumptuous. There are deep, luxurious upholstered chairs and sofas, covered in rich velvets and classic tailored herringbone, where you can sit back and relax before your flight. There is wireless internet access throughout, and power points too so you can charge your mobile devices from the comfort of your armchair.
Or, if you’ve got some work to do before boarding, there is a working “office” zone, with internet access, printers, copiers and fax machines - so you can continue to work throughout your time at the airport.
As you’d expect, there are plenty of food and drink choices available in the Galleries First Lounge, all at self-service bars. From continental and British breakfast items in the morning, to a variety of lunchtime and evening meal options, there are also snacks throughout the day, plus the choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including fresh coffee from the Union coffee stations. You can also enjoy waiter service dining in the lounge, with pre-flight dining available if you are departing from London Heathrow after 8pm.
Access to the First Lounge is now through the brand new First Wing area at the south end of the terminal. This allows you to use First check in, go through a separate (speedy) security gate and enter directly into the BA lounge.
Only available for customers travelling in First, or those that are Concorde Room cardholders, the Concorde Room in Terminal 5A (South) is a step further on the lounge opulence spectrum. Open from 5am until 10.30pm, it really is the epitome of elegance – a welcoming and inviting space with luxurious furniture, beautiful chandeliers and amazing artwork. Recently refurbished, British Airways have taken inspiration from the very best of British design, craftsmanship and heritage. There’s lighting from Porta Romana, beautifully woven Osborne and Little fabrics and contemporary tables from Boss Design.
You can enjoy pre-flight dining in a private dining booth with full waiter service and an a la carte menu from executive head chefs Frank Coughlin and Errol Figueroa. And your waiter will be happy to pair your meal with the finest champagnes and wines from around the world, so you have a truly amazing pre-flight experience.
If you want to relax a while or freshen up before your fly, private cabanas with a comfortable day bed and en suite bathroom give you the privacy you need. You can also choose to dine in the cabana, or simply take a nap – the hosts are on call with room service or a wake-up call, no request is too big or small.
Catching up on the latest news or cramming in a few more emails can be done on the lounge’s computers, in the state-of-the-art business suite (all the same facilities as the Galleries First Lounge). For your convenience, mobile chargers are also available.
Galleries Club Lounge
There are three Galleries Club Lounges to choose from at Heathrow – one in North Terminal 5A, one in South Terminal 5A and one in Terminal 5B.
All three are open from 5am until 10.30pm and available for customers travelling in First, Club World or Club Europe classes, Executive Club Gold and Silver Members (plus one guest) and Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members (plus one guest).
When you enter the Galleries Club Lounge you are greeted with calm and tranquil surroundings, featuring Osborne and Little exclusively designed fabric, fine wines (or even a nicely chilled glass of champagne). Your quiet time before your flight will be time well spent, relaxing or working – however you choose.
Light meals or snacks are especially prepared for you, with some flights offering the opportunity to dine in the lounge, maximising your sleep on board.
The exclusive work and entertainment zone is a perfect place to catch up on last minute emails, or catch the latest sports scores in the 20 seat cinema room.
British Airways have joined forces with Elemis, the acclaimed British spa and skincare brand, to offer passengers exclusive treatments and skin-therapies at selected airport lounges. Developed by the world-renowned Noella Gabriel, Elemis brings you a new concept in travel spa and skin-therapies to awaken your senses and refresh you before your journey begins.
A complimentary 15-minute treatment menu is available to customers travelling in First or Business (Club World), as well as Executive Club Gold Members flying long haul through London Heathrow or New York JFK.
Lounges on arrival at Heathrow airport
If you're travelling in First or Club World, or are an Executive Club Gold Member travelling on a long haul flight, you can also visit the Galleries Arrivals Lounge when you touchdown at Heathrow.
Situated on the first floor of the main terminal building (Terminal 5A), you can access the lounge using the green lift. Here you can freshen up with an invigorating power shower, help yourself to delicious food and drink or prepare for work. While the valet service presses your suit, you can enjoy a complimentary treatment at the Elemis Travel Spa and leave looking as good as you feel.
The lounge is open from 5am until 2pm. Capacity restrictions do apply, so unfortunately you won't be able to bring guests into the Arrivals lounge.
