Doing Business in the Far East

Business in China is booming, the country presents tremendously exciting opportunities for international trade and expansion for Western businesspeople. It’s powered by the world’s second-largest economy (predicted to be the largest by 2030) and its increasingly urbanised population, which at 1.4 billion makes up almost 20% of the world’s total, is heavily employed in manufacturing.

China’s numerous cities and special administrative regions are magnets for ambition and growth, with more than 160 of them boasting populations well in excess of 1 million. Mainland China’s most developed cities, which include Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, have populations exceeding 10 million - more than most of the world’s nations. Hong Kong, a global powerhouse of commerce and trade, has a population of 7.4 million.
